This year is the tenth anniversary of Roald Dahl Day – an event that has become a huge success here in the UK and abroad. It’s usually celebrated around the 13th September, which was Dahl’s birthday back in 1916. It’s amazing to think that had he been alive today he would have been 100!
It’s a great excuse to indulge the kids in a spot of storytelling and fancy-dress (or ‘costume’ as Americans like to call it) in order to promote reading and to raise money for charity.
I like to keep things fresh, and in an effort to try something completely different, back in April I decided to dye my hair yellow. After all, I’d been every other colour under the sun, so I reckoned it was time to finally be the sunshine.
Being a huge fan of Manic Panic I chose their Electric Banana tone, firstly because of the colour’s hint of neon (fun), its lime tinge (double fun), its silly name (more fun) and lastly because of the dye’s glow-in-the-dark attribute – well OK, glow-under-UV/black light (but still, quadruple fun!). There was even an accompanying Electric Banana hair gel to enhance this final feature. Amazing. ‘Girls just wanna have fun’ indeedy…
